What To Do When Standard Flea and Tick Control Don’t Work
One of the most detested pest species on the planet is fleas. Pet owners and animal loversalike will come together in droves to complain about these teeny pests incessant nature. And with all of the flea and tick control products currently on the market today, one would think that it would be a pretty simple science. However, that is not the case at all. Just ask anyone who has dealt with an infestation before.
Fleas, being very small and very resilient, have the ability to jump out of harm’s way, crawl into the tightest of places, and hide deep beneath the layers of hair on your pet. Plus, they breed at unbelievably rapid rates. It is thought that a single female flea can lay between twenty-five and fifty eggs per day. So, it is very easy to understand how a small problem can become very momentous, very quickly.
There are, of course, many treatments on the market and some can be quite effective. However, when the brand name products aren’t working, there are three steps that you should take to ensure that your home and your pet aren’t completely overrun.
First, be sure that you are using the products as recommended. Many pet owners will use the most popular Advantage and Frontline treatments to give their pets a fighting chance against the minuscule irritants, but used incorrectly, the pet’s fight is instantly lost. These treatments, which typically come in tiny vials containing single doses, are meant to be used as part of a large prevention plan. They should be used as directed and as often as directed because, although the fleas might not be making an appearance now, they can crop up at nearly any time.
Secondly, it isn’t just the pet that should have the regular treatment. The house should get one as well. There are many house and yard flea and tick repellents on the market today, including environmentally-friendly options. Treating the home and yard each time you give a dose to your pet’s back will put you several steps ahead the average home owner.
If it is too late for prevention, then it is time to tackle a flea removal. You can try doing this alone first by giving your pets regular, daily baths until the problem is kicked. Treat the home and yard and vacuum every day (including couch and chair cushions, area rugs, and under furniture) until all signs of fleas have disappeared.
If/When your DIY treatments and the extra cleaning are not curing the problem, then it is time to call in the big guns. Professional pest control companies are trained to deal with the problem in a different way and they have access to flea control products that you can’t get your hands on.
Once the pest control experts have come in and cleaned out the unwanted visitors, you must do your part to keep them away. Go back to step one and be very vigilant with treatments of both the pets and the house to ensure your furry loved ones stay clean and bite free.

Does Nme Even Know What a Music Blog Is? $96.59 MP3 blogs and their aggregators, which have risen to prominence over the past four years, are presenting an alternative way of promoting and discovering new music. This book argues that MP3 files greatly affect MP3 blogs in terms of shaping them as: a genre separate from general weblogs and music blogs without MP3s, especially due to the impact of MP3 blog aggregators such as The Hype Machine and Elbows; a particular form of rhetoric illuminated by Kenneth Burkes dramatistic ratios; and a potentially subversive subculture, which like other subcultures, exists in a symbiotic relationship with the traditional media it defines itself against. Using excerpts from multiple MP3 blogs and their forums, interviews with MP3 bloggers and Anthony Volodkin (creator of The Hype Machine), references to MP3 blogs in traditional press, and dramatism and social semiotic theory, this book demonstrates that the MP3 file is not only changing the way music is consumed and circulated, but also the way music is promoted and discussed. This is a valuable academic text about the social implications of an emerging medium that has not yet been explored in the academic arena. The Initiate’s Blog $8.95 The Initiates blog is a satirical and thought-provoking yarn about the second coming of Christ. Well, he said he would come back – so no big surprise there, but this time he turns up in Burnley, Lancashire of all places, his first public address being at a Golf Club Society dinner. Throughout his eventful six-month visit His world turns upside down. The wine in a mediocre restaurant is so bad that he turns it back into water. He eats a kebab after a few too many Boddingtons, resulting in the hangover from hell (sorry, couldn't resist), so it's nicely reassuring to know that even the son of God can't come up with the miracle cure for that. As only someone who isn't from our world can do, He provides unique tongue-in-cheek insights into modern life, and reminders of the idiosyncrasies which become obscured by the repetitive daily grind. His FKGs (five key goals) during his six month stint are to develop a VERY limited number of key personal relationships; identify a Plan B location (in case England proves to be a bad fit for the Mission); identify his medium-term modus operandi (i.e. for the following 2-3 years); monitor and gain an in-depth understanding of Earth's key issues, and their implications for the Mission and identify the strengths and weaknesses of Earth's major current religions, and the associated problems and opportunities these offer. |

100 First Pages $40.95 This book is called 100 First Pages because that’s what it is. Each page in the book is ’supposed’ to be the first page of a novel. Next to that page, on the left, are my comments about how the novel might go, along with some of my personal thoughts on the ’subject’. That’s the best part, because it is a mini-encyclopedia, almanac, journal and, to some extent, a blog. The book covers a large array of topics and genres. I promise that I will write the novel which receives the most votes for publication AND if you are the person who suggests the Best Title, i.e. the one I will use, you will get a cover credit, an entire page inside to write anything you like and one dollar for every copy sold! Eeeee Eee Eeee $14.95 Tao Lin will kick your ass and say thank you afterwards! -Amy Fusselman, author of The Pharmacist’s Mate Tao Lin’s book blog, ReaderofDepressingBooks.com, has made him one of the most talked-about young writers on the scene today. His commentaries taking mainstream writers to task and calling for the death of commercial writing have generated nonstop discussion and made him the subject of innumerable profiles on leading cultural websites, from McSweeney’s to Bookslut to Gawker and on. Meanwhile, his fiction appears regularly in the ‘zines and websites defining the new culture. All this while still an undergraduate at New York University-where Lin won the school’s prestigious writing award. Less than a year after graduating, Lin meets and surpasses all expectations in a debut novel set in the bizarre alternative reality of today’s youth culture. EEEEE EEE EEEE is a pleasingly sophisticated work, an unself-conscious yet commanding tour de force about the search for meaning in a culture gone mad with celebrities and advertising. It is a place where animals talk, books and music matter, honesty counts, and you can ask, without fear of embarrassment, What’s a Jhumpa Lahiri? It is a sparkling, joyous debut. Tao Lin lives in New York City. |

The Rise of the Blogosphere $12.96 In 1985 The WELL, a dial-up discussion board based on the utilization of desktop computer technology, invited popular participation in one of the first examples of what would eventually evolve into the blog – an interactive website allowing reaction comments to initial statements, and now providing the primary Internet means for dialogue. The WELL began with the phrase: You own your own words. Though almost everything else about online discussion has changed in the two decades since, those words still describe its central premise, and this basic idea underlies both the power and the popularity of blogging today. Appropriately enough, it also describes American journalism as it existed a century and a half before The WELL was organized, before the concept of popular involvement in the press was nearly swept away on the rising tide of commercial and professional journalism. In this book, which is the first to provide readers with a cultural/historical account of the blog, as well as the first to analyze the different aspects of this growing phenomenon in terms of its past, Aaron Barlow provides lay readers with a thorough history and analysis of a truly democratic technology that is becoming more important to our lives every day. The current popularity of political blogs can be traced back to currents in American culture apparent even at the time of the Revolution. In the twentieth century, the press became increasingly professional, removing itself once more from the general populace. Americans, however, still longed to voice their opinions with the freedom that the press had once provided. Today, blogs |
